For anyone growing up in the Tennessee Valley
the name "Point Mallard" revives images of sun, waves an picnics. But
Point Mallard is also know as the location for the first and oldest open air ice
rink in the state of Alabama. This little known secret has housed and fostered
many skaters through hockey, figure and public skating. Due to the age of their
original equipment the City of Decatur had to close their skating facility this
past season, leaving many skaters and the public without a needed recreation
facility.
